This is the use of medication to terminate a pregnancy. It’s the most widely used method to abort, used by women all over the world due to its simplicity. The pill works by causing the womb lining to contract, resulting in bleeding. 

What to expect after taking the abortion pill. 

The medication works differently for one person than for another. However, the most common side effects of abortion include:-

• Heavy bleeding, which normalizes with time to period bleeding, and this takes days. If bleeding lasts for a day or less, chances are high that the abortion is incomplete. 
• Depending on how late the pregnancy is, some people who terminate late pregnancy feel chills after taking the abortion pill. However, this is not so common for early pregnancy termination. Pregnancy termination can be painful, especially for late pregnancies. You can take measures to ease the pain, like taking a pain-block, for example, ibuprofen, drinking hot tea with no sugar, or putting a warm water bottle on the stomach and sitting on the toilet. Choosing which abortion method to use depends on several factors, for example, the gestation period and personal needs, among others. Below is a comparison of both methods to help you decide. 

Abortion Recovery Process. What to and not to do. 

Recovery after abortion, either medical or surgical abortion, involves emotional and physical adjustment. Most women take a day to get back to their daily lives. The bleeding can continue until it stops on its own. Don’t take medication to stop the bleeding. You will stop the bleeding, leading to an incomplete abortion. 

Do a pregnancy test 2 to 3 weeks after bleeding. Should u do a test before, then you will get a false positive because the test will detect the progesterone hormone in the urine as the body is trying to flush it out. 

Be mindful not to have sex immediately after the bleeding has stopped. This can cause you to start bleeding again. Wait for your body to properly heal before engaging in sexual intercourse, around 2 to 3 weeks after you have stopped bleeding. 

Fertility after abortion. Abortion, either by surgical procedure or medical, has no negative effect on your ability to have kids. You can still have kids. 

We advise having pregnancy prevention immediately after the abortion to avoid conceiving immediately after. The menstrual cycle will return after 4 to 6 weeks, but the exact date will change.
